A letter to a Phillips Steroegram
A letter too.. A Phillips Stereogram.
I think you changed my life Mr Phillips. You, with the smiling illuminated radio dial with mysterious stations like ‘Athlone’ marked on it (I never did know where Athlone was) and the wonderful records in stacked your left hand compartment. No one remembers you or your kind much now; I think I have seen you on e-bay for £20, ‘in need of some restoration’.
A letter to my dad - my working class hero
Dear dad,
I am attaching another letter BP sent to you about some odd shares you have that I cannot find. It is six years since you died and they still write to you, but put (deceased) after your name. I know you liked BP; a real company that produced something you said and anyway, the workers should buy shares and have a say.
You should have kept better track of your paperwork in the last year of your life, but you were over 90 and it all got a bit much I know. But I get so sad every time I see your name on the envelope.
Interview with an older Birkbeck student
Well actually an interview with myself. I have promised to find time to talk to me about why I did a Birkbeck Certificate course at the age of 57 and managed to get a window in the diary today. I met up with myself at my trendy east London home over a coffee drunk from the lovely Birkbeck Alumni mug picked up at the Certificate award ceremony last month.
Me: So why become a student at such an advanced age?

Fostering Fees - Slough halves allowances for carers
It was very sad to see that the usual victims of council social services cuts are in the frame again. Slough council halved foster carer's allowances for teenagers to £200 per week.
Why I don't buy the Times anymore
Murdoch’s Paywall a failure?
Early indications are that the paywall experiment with the Times, putting the contact behind a pay as you read subscription, has not succeeded. Is this bad news for journalism or do I just want bad news for News International?
